When a donation or other payment arrives, it’s good to know straight away, especially during an appeal or a live event. You can ask ThirdSectorBee to tell you with a message in the app, a notification on your computer, a sound, or any combination.

These are personal settings. They only affect you, and you can change them at any time.

Before you start

  • You need permission to see payments: relationships:read:fundraisingactivities. Without it, no alerts can be shown.
  • For desktop notifications, your browser must support them and you’ll need to allow them for ThirdSectorBee when asked.

Choose your alerts

  1. Open the account menu, choose Settings, then the User tab.
  2. Under Payment notifications, open When a payment is received and choose:
    • Don’t show a notification
    • Show an in-app message: a green Payment received message appears in the corner of the page.
    • Show a desktop notification: a notification from your operating system, which you’ll see even when the ThirdSectorBee tab is in the background.
  3. Turn Play a sound on if you’d like a chime as well. This works with any of the options above, including Don’t show a notification.
  4. Choose Save.

If you chose a desktop notification, your browser asks for permission when you save. Allow it. A Profile updated message confirms your settings are saved.

What you’ll see

Each alert says how much arrived, for example £25.00 received, or how many payments arrived together, for example 3 payments received.

Some things to know:

  • ThirdSectorBee checks for new incoming payments about every 25 seconds while you have it open in a tab.
  • Alerts are for payments that arrive while ThirdSectorBee is open. Payments recorded before you opened it, or while it was closed, don’t trigger an alert.
  • Only incoming payments trigger an alert.
  • With Show an in-app message and no sound, ThirdSectorBee only checks while its tab is visible. Payments that arrived while you were on another tab are announced when you come back.

If something goes wrong

  • “Desktop notifications are blocked in your browser.” You declined, or previously blocked, notifications for this site. Alerts appear in the app instead. To switch desktop notifications on, allow notifications for ThirdSectorBee in your browser’s site settings, then save again.
  • “This browser does not support desktop notifications.” Choose Show an in-app message instead, or use a different browser.
  • No alerts appear. Check you hold relationships:read:fundraisingactivities on Settings → Permissions, and that ThirdSectorBee is open in a tab.
