The Security tab in Settings holds your passkeys and, for administrators, the beehive’s idle timeout. Together they help keep supporter information safe on shared or unattended computers.

Before you start

  • Anyone can manage their own passkeys.
  • Changing the session idle timeout needs account:admin:team. Without it, you won’t see that section.

Open the account menu, choose Settings, then the Security tab.

Add a passkey

  1. Under Passkeys, choose Add a passkey.
  2. Follow your browser or device prompt to register your fingerprint, face or device PIN.

The passkey appears in the list with its Name and the date it was Added. To use it, see Sign in with a passkey.

Remove a passkey

Remove a passkey when you replace or lose a device.

  1. Choose Remove beside the passkey.
  2. Read the warning: you’ll need another passkey or your password to sign in.
  3. Choose Yes, remove, or Cancel to keep it.

Set the beehive idle timeout

The idle timeout signs people out after a period with no activity, so an unattended screen doesn’t stay open on your records.

  1. Under Session idle timeout, open Lock after.
  2. Choose 5, 15 or 30 minutes; 1, 2, 4 or 8 hours; or Never lock.
  3. Choose Save.

A Session timeout updated message confirms the change.

This setting applies to everyone in the current beehive, not only to you. When someone has been inactive for the chosen time (no clicks, key presses, scrolling or touches), ThirdSectorBee hides what was on screen and shows Session expired. They choose Log in again to sign back in. Anything they hadn’t saved is lost, so choose a time that fits how long your team usually spends on one screen.

If your beehive has never set a timeout, a platform default applies until an administrator chooses one.

If something goes wrong

  • “Failed to add passkey. Please try again.” Check your browser and device support passkeys, then try again.
  • “Couldn’t update the session timeout. Please try again.” The change wasn’t saved. Check you still hold account:admin:team, then try again.
