Configure a sponsorship programme
A programme’s configuration sets how sponsorship works: who is sponsored, where the money goes, how much sponsors give and what they can see. Agree these with your programme and safeguarding leads before you save, because most of them lock once the first sponsorship opportunity is approved.
Before you start
- You need
sponsorship:admin:configto change a configuration. With onlysponsorship:read:opportunitiesyou can view it, and you’ll see You can view this configuration but not change it. - Five settings lock after the first approval. Once any sponsorship opportunity in the programme has been approved, you can no longer change Who is sponsored, Where the money goes, the amounts and currency, Sponsors per sponsorship opportunity or How communication works. You can still change the profile fields, the regions and the second-reviewer setting.
Open the configuration
- Under Beneficiary Sponsorship, choose Programmes and open the programme.
- Choose Configuration.
A programme that hasn’t been configured shows This programme hasn’t been configured yet. and a starting set of choices.
How sponsorship works
| Setting | Options |
|---|---|
| Who is sponsored | An individual, A group, or An individual who belongs to a group |
| Where the money goes | To the individual, To the group or To the programme. Money can only go to a group when the programme sponsors groups or individuals in groups |
| How the amount is set | See the next table |
| Currency (ISO code) | A three-letter code, such as GBP |
| Sponsors per sponsorship opportunity | One sponsor; A fixed number of sponsors, with a Number of sponsors of at least 2; or Any number, towards a target |
| How communication works | No communication, One-way: the sponsor receives updates or Two-way |
| How the amount is set | What to enter |
|---|---|
| A fixed amount | Amount, greater than zero |
| A choice of amounts | Amounts (comma separated): at least two different amounts, each greater than zero, such as 10, 20, 50 |
| The donor chooses, with a minimum | Minimum amount, and optionally a Suggested amount that isn’t below the minimum |
| A shared target amount | Target amount. Needs more than one sponsor per sponsorship opportunity. Any number, towards a target always needs a shared target |
Amounts can have at most two decimal places.
Profiles
Choose what a profile must contain and what sponsors may see. Keep Fields a sponsor may see to what a sponsor genuinely needs.
- Required profile fields: fields that must be filled in before a sponsorship opportunity can be approved. First name is always required.
- Fields a sponsor may see: the profile fields shown to sponsors. If you include Photo, every sponsorship opportunity also needs image-use consent before it can be approved.
- Regions: the broad areas profiles can choose from. Type a region and press Enter. Add at least one region before making Region a required field.
Review
Require a second reviewer to approve is on by default. It means the approver must be someone other than the people who created, edited, wrote a profile for or recorded consent for that sponsorship opportunity. Leave it on unless your organisation has a documented reason not to.
Save
Choose Save configuration. You’ll see Configuration saved. It may take a moment to show here. The programme now shows as Configured and can take sponsorship opportunities.
If something goes wrong
The form explains any combination it can’t accept, for example A shared target needs more than one sponsor per sponsorship opportunity. Adjust the settings and save again. Enter a three-letter currency code, such as GBP. means the currency isn’t valid.
If you see This isn’t a sponsorship programme, or it hasn’t finished being set up yet., check the programme’s type in All Programmes, or, if you created it moments ago, wait and try again.
