A passkey lets you sign in with your fingerprint, face or device PIN instead of typing your password. It’s quicker, and there’s no password for anyone to guess or phish. Your password keeps working alongside it.

Before you start

  • You need a ThirdSectorBee login. No permission is needed: every user can manage their own passkeys.
  • Your browser and device must support passkeys. Most current browsers on phones, tablets and computers with a fingerprint reader, face recognition or a screen lock PIN do.

Add a passkey from the banner

After you sign in, if you have no passkey yet, a Sign in faster next time banner appears at the top of the page.

  1. Choose Add a passkey.
  2. Follow your browser or device prompt to confirm with your fingerprint, face or PIN.

A Passkey added message confirms it worked, and the banner disappears.

If you’d rather not, choose Not now. ThirdSectorBee won’t show the banner for your account again in this browser. You can still add a passkey at any time from Settings.

Add a passkey from Settings

  1. Open the account menu and choose Settings, then the Security tab.
  2. Under Passkeys, choose Add a passkey.
  3. Follow your browser or device prompt.

The new passkey appears in the list with its Name and the date it was Added. You can add more than one, for example one on your laptop and one on your phone.

Sign in with your passkey

  1. Open Sign in.
  2. Enter your email and choose Continue.
  3. If your account has a passkey, your browser asks for it straight away. Confirm with your fingerprint, face or PIN.

You’re signed in and taken to the page you were trying to reach.

If you close the prompt or it doesn’t appear, choose Sign in with a passkey to try again, or Use your password instead to type your password. On the password screen, Sign in with a passkey instead takes you back.

If something goes wrong

  • “We couldn’t sign you in with a passkey.” The passkey wasn’t accepted, perhaps because it was created on another device. Use your password, or try a different passkey.
  • “Couldn’t add a passkey. You can try again anytime from Settings.” Your browser or device didn’t complete registration. Check that it supports passkeys and has a screen lock set, then try again from Settings → Security.
  • You’ve lost the device with your passkey. Sign in with your password, then remove the old passkey from Settings → Security. See Manage passkeys and session settings.
  • You’ve forgotten your password too. Use Forgotten your password? on the sign-in screen. See Update your profile.
