Create a sponsorship programme

A sponsorship programme holds the people or groups supporters can sponsor, and the rules for how sponsorship works. Create one for each scheme you run, such as a child sponsorship programme in one region.

Before you start

  • You need sponsorship:read:opportunities to see sponsorship programmes, and programmes:write:programmes to create one. Without the Programmes permission, the New programme button doesn’t appear.
  • A sponsorship programme is also a programme in Programmes, so its funding and impact are managed there as for any other programme.

See your sponsorship programmes

In the sidebar, under Beneficiary Sponsorship, choose Programmes. Each row shows the Programme name, its Status and whether its Configuration is Configured or Not configured. Select a programme’s name to open it.

A newly created programme may show Setting up… in place of its name for a moment.

Create a programme

  1. Open Programmes under Beneficiary Sponsorship and choose New programme.
  2. Enter a Name.
  3. Add a Description, Start date and End date if you have them. The end date can’t be before the start date.
  4. Choose a Status: Planned, Seeking funding, Active, Paused or Completed.
  5. Choose Create programme.

You’ll see a message that the programme was created and will appear in Programmes too. You can also create one from All Programmes by choosing New Programme and setting Programme type to Beneficiary sponsorship. The type can’t be changed afterwards.

Configure it before use

A new programme is Not configured and can’t take sponsorship opportunities yet. Next, configure the programme.

Inside a programme

Opening a programme shows three tabs:

Sponsorship opportunities Everyone in the programme, filtered by Status Anyone with sponsorship:read:opportunities
Approval queue Sponsorship opportunities waiting for review People who can also approve
Groups Groups that can be sponsored, or that people belong to Anyone with read access

The Configuration link opens the programme’s settings, for people with sponsorship:admin:config. All sponsorship programmes takes you back to the list.

From All Programmes, a sponsorship programme’s page has a Sponsorship settings button that brings you here.

Changing a programme’s status

Edit or archive the programme from All Programmes: see Create and manage programmes. A Completed or Archived programme can’t take new sponsorship opportunities.

If something goes wrong

Failed to load sponsorship programmes.: choose Try again. If it keeps happening, check you hold sponsorship:read:opportunities.
