The General giving dashboard gives your team a quick picture of donations this calendar year: how much has come in, the typical gift, where the money came from and how it built up month by month. It’s a good place to start a trustee report or a fundraising team meeting.

Before you start

  • You need relationships:read:fundraisingactivities. Without it the page says “You need permission to view fundraising activities to see giving statistics.” See the permission catalogue.
  • The dashboard is available in every beehive.

Open the dashboard

Under Fundraising in the sidebar, open General Giving. The dashboard always shows the current calendar year (1 January to 31 December, UTC). There’s no year selector or export.

What each part shows

Part What it shows
Total raised Donations received and kept this year, after refunds, with the number of donations underneath
Average gift Total raised divided by the number of donations. One large gift can raise this noticeably.
Where giving comes from A donut chart and legend splitting the total into four sources, with the amount for each
Giving by month A stacked bar per month, January to December, split into the same four sources

Amounts are shown in your beehive’s reporting currency. Hover over the information icon beside a card’s title for a reminder of how it’s worked out.

What counts as a donation

A payment is counted when all of these are true:

  • it’s an incoming payment, not a refund or other outgoing payment
  • its status is Paid. Pledged and invoiced payments are left out until they’re paid.
  • its allocation type counts as a gift. You choose which allocation types count in Configuration → Allocation types; a payment with no allocation type counts as a donation.

Refunds reduce the total for the payment they reverse.

How sources are decided

Each donation is counted under one source, checked in this order:

  1. Fundraising pages: the payment is linked to a fundraising page, even if it’s also linked to an organisation or contact.
  2. Organisations: the payment is linked to an organisation.
  3. Individual donors: the payment is linked to a contact.
  4. Unattributed: none of these.

To move a gift to the right source, edit the payment’s links in the payment form.

When figures update

The statistics are worked out separately from payment entry, so a new or corrected payment can take a moment to appear. Changing whether an allocation type counts as a gift applies to every payment of that type, past ones included: the dashboard is rebuilt in the background, which can take a few minutes for a long payment history.

If something goes wrong

  • “No donations recorded for [year] yet.” No payments this year meet the rules above. Check the payments’ status and allocation type.
  • “Giving statistics could not be loaded.” Reload the page. If it keeps happening, contact your administrator.
  • Amounts show no currency symbol. Your beehive’s reporting currency isn’t set. Ask an administrator to set it in Relationships settings.
