When a member renews, restart their membership so its expiry date moves on and it counts as current again.

Before you start

  • You need memberships:write:memberships to renew, and memberships:read:memberships to open the membership. See the permission catalogue.
  • Sort out the payment first. Renewing doesn’t take or record a payment.

To find memberships coming up for renewal, use Upcoming renewals, or filter Memberships by Lapsing or Expired.

Renew a membership

  1. Open the membership.
  2. Check its Payment card and Dates.
  3. Choose Renew, then Renew membership.

What changes

  • The Start date becomes today. You can’t choose a different date from this dialog.
  • The Expiry date is worked out again from the type’s current expiry policy. For a Fixed term type, that’s the term length from today.
  • The status becomes Active.
  • The Member since date, the members, the payer and the linked payment stay as they were.

Changes may take a moment to appear.

Renew is also available on a cancelled membership. Renewing a Cancelled membership makes it Active again, so check the status before you confirm.

Remind members before they’re due

To contact members ahead of their renewal date, or to set up an automation that runs for each renewal, see Work with upcoming renewals.
