Record outcomes at case closure
When someone’s support ends, it’s a natural moment to record what changed for them. A programme can ask for outcome measurements when one of its cases closes, so the evidence is captured while the case manager still has it to hand.
When you’ll be asked
Choosing Close case always opens a window titled Record Outcome Measurements. It lists measurements to record only when all of these are true:
- the case is linked to a programme
- that programme’s outcome framework has indicators collected At Case Closure
- some of those indicators haven’t been recorded for this case yet
- you hold
impact:read:outcomes,impact:write:outcomesandprogrammes:read:programmes
Otherwise the window only asks you to confirm the closure.
Indicators added from a programme’s Impact tab aren’t collected at case closure, and the Create Case form doesn’t link a case to a programme. Both are set up through the API or an integration, so check with whoever manages your programme data if you expect to be asked and aren’t.
Record a measurement
- Open the case and choose Close case.
- In Record Outcome Measurements, read the list under Missing Measurements.
- Choose Record Measurement under an indicator.
- Enter a Value, or for a narrative indicator describe the outcome in Narrative.
- Choose Record Measurement to save it, or Cancel to go back.
The measurement is recorded against the case and the programme, dated now. When every indicator is recorded you’ll see All required measurements have been recorded. and can choose Continue to Close Case.
Known limitation: Recording a measurement from this window currently fails with Failed to record measurement., because the service that stores it isn’t available yet. Note the outcome in the case’s notes or an interaction before closing, so it isn’t lost.
Close without recording
Outstanding measurements never stop you closing a case. Support can end for reasons that leave nothing to record, such as the person moving away or no longer wishing to take part, and that decision is the case manager’s.
Choose Close without recording to close the case. Read the warning in Close a case first: closing can’t be undone.
