Write a sponsor-facing profile
The profile is what sponsors see about the person or group they support. Write it warmly and respectfully, as you’d want to be described yourself, and include only what a sponsor needs. Never include anything that would let a sponsor identify or locate the person.
Before you start
- You need
sponsorship:write:opportunities. - A profile can be edited only while the sponsorship opportunity is Draft, Rejected or On hold. At other times you’ll see A profile can be edited only while the sponsorship opportunity is a draft, rejected or on hold.
- Check the programme’s configuration for which fields are required and which sponsors may see.
Write the profile
Do not enter surnames, addresses, phone numbers, emails, links or social media handles. Free-text fields are refused if they contain an email address, a phone number, a numeric date, a web address or a handle. That check catches mistakes but can’t catch everything, so the reviewer is the real safeguard.
- Open the sponsorship opportunity and choose the Profile tab.
- Fill in the fields:
| Field | Guidance |
|---|---|
| First name | Up to 60 characters. Always required. Consider a chosen or shortened name if a full first name could identify the person |
| Age band | 0-4, 5-8, 9-12, 13-17 or 18+. An age band rather than a birth date |
| Region | Chosen from the programme’s regions: a broad area, never an address |
| Interests | Up to 10, each up to 40 characters |
| Short bio | Up to 600 characters |
| Photo reference | The id of a stored photo. Uploading isn’t available from this screen yet |
- Choose Save new version.
You’ll see Profile saved as a new version. It may take a moment to show. Each save keeps the earlier versions, so there’s a record of what was written.
When sponsors see it
Sponsors see only the fields the programme allows, and only while consent is in force. If participation consent is missing, expired or withdrawn, the page shows The sponsor-facing profile is hidden because participation consent is not in force. If only image-use consent is missing, it shows The photo is hidden from sponsors because image-use consent is not in force.
Changing an approved profile
To change the profile of an Available sponsorship opportunity, choose Put on hold, edit and save the profile, then choose Submit for review so the new version is approved. Once the profile has changed, Release is no longer offered: it has to go through review again.
If something goes wrong
If saving is refused, read the message: it usually names the kind of content found, such as a phone number or a link. Remove it and save again.
Next: record consent.
